You may have noticed that I use hanchwang in many places online, including the address of this website: hanchwang.github.io.
The “CH” is not a reference to Switzerland. It is easy to read it as the Swiss country code, especially now that I live and work in Zürich, but that is not where it came from. It comes from Cheng, the romanization of the Chinese character 成.
When I was born, my name was 王汉成, written in English as Han-Cheng Wang. Later, my name was changed to 王汉, or Han Wang.
The character 成 no longer appears in my current name, but the “CH” stayed with me online. It became a quiet link between the name I was given at birth and the name I use today.
That is why I often use HanCH Wang—or simply hanchwang—as my ID across websites, accounts, and projects. It is not a country code or a random set of letters. It is a small personal trace that I have carried forward.
